Configuring Microsoft Outlook 2003 for POP3 Email
Description of Issue
Superlative Solutions
uses SmarterMail, a robust Web-based POP3 email server. Configuring
Microsoft Outlook 2003 to access your SmarterMail account is easy. (Note that if you
are not configuring for Superlative Solutions, follow your ISP's directions regarding
server settings.)

Resolution
1. Open Outlook and select Tools | Email Accounts from the menu bar. This will open the email accounts wizard.



2. Using the wizard (shown below), click on the radio button labeled "Add new email account" then click Next.

3. Check the server type of POP3 (as shown below) then click Next.

4. Fill in your account information. The form is shown below with instructions for each field following it:

  • Your Name is the name that displays to recipients of your messages.
  • E-mail Address is your full e-mail address, such as name@domain.com.
  • Both Incoming and Outgoing mail servers should be listed as
    mail.domain.com.
    For example, if your domain is example.com, both servers should be listed as mail.example.com.
  • User Name. Use your full email address here.
  • Password is whatever you have set for a password.
  • Click the More Settings button to access additional security features.

5. The additional settings dialog will be displayed. You should enter the following:

  • Click on the Outgoing Server tab.
  • Check My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.
  • Check Use same settings as my incoming mail server
  • Click OK.


6. Click OK on the main dialog as shown below. You should see the completion message. Then click on the Finish button to exit the dialog.
